Prochain Station…

If you take the city’s public transit on a daily basis, then you’ll these two famous words all too well. When you enter any of the 68 metro stations placed throughout the Metropolitan area, you’ll notice that every one of them is different. When designing the stations back in the 60’s to 80’s, they had different artist add their own unique twist. Sadly, since I mostly travel to stations that I need to go to, I don’t have as many pics as I would like.

Quartier Des Spectacles

Ste-Catherine Street is the busiest and probably one of the most well known streets in Montreal. It used to be the go-to way back when, but that’s Rene-Levesque’s job now. Now, let’s talk about the more seasonal things that go on during the summer months. Even as Harry Potter puts it; there are too many parades, but that’s not such a bad thing. This year, I was lucky enough to see the Gay Pride Parade and The Montreal Fashion Week in July and August of this year.

“Take Me to Church”

When coming to Montreal or Canada for that matter, unlike Europe; that is full of beautiful castles, there are none here whatsoever. Thankfully, since Christianity as a whole has major influence in the culture, we were literally blessed with beautiful churches. From St Joseph’s Oratory, Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral or Notre-Dame Basilica; all located in the Downtown area. These are our castles and there are a lot of them too. Unfortunately, by me being Jewish , my exposure to these works have art have been limited, but I’m slowing working on changing that. Also, I might even go to one of them on Christmas Eve and Day too, just for the experience.

The Word “Graffiti” is a New Word for Art in This City

The closer you get to the Downtown area, you begin to notice all of the unattractive looking scribbles sprayed across our bridges and you also wonder how the hell they were able to reach that far. Joking aside, we do have our fair share of taggers in the city of Montreal, but we make up for it with world-class artist visiting Montreal just to get a chance to add their name our walls. Art galleries are no longer confined to building with ancient pieces anymore, now you have a free outdoor gallery, which is the city itself. Walking down the famous Ste-Catherine street towards the east, you get just a tease of what is to come, same goes for St-Laurent Street which divides the city’s East and West sides . The word Graffiti has been sprayed over and replaced with Street Art; it’s too beautiful to give it a negatively perceived label. Also the size of each art piece differs from the span of a building to just half a door.
