My Trip To The Old Capital: Quebec

The time has come, we are finally going to get a change in scenery. By now, most of you guys have be accustomed to my point-of-view of walking the very colourful streets of Montreal, but now we go to somewhere even older: Quebec City! This trip was a part of our session project, the funnest one yet. I haven’t been to Quebec City since I was about 6 months old; so that was about 6 years ago :). I was very excited because going to a new city means that I have more to capture.

When we pulled up to Chateau Frontenac, I immediately had my camera in hand and ready to start shooting, but before I could do that, I had a project to do. The Quebec Tourism Office was our first stop. We got our ticket and within minutes we were talking to the employee at the office. I watched the tourism students get to work, I observed the different things that they ask for when searching for information on a given area. Funny enough, I was greeted by “Bonhomme Carnaval,” who happened to be very photogenic.

Prochain Station…

If you take the city’s public transit on a daily basis, then you’ll these two famous words all too well. When you enter any of the 68 metro stations placed throughout the Metropolitan area, you’ll notice that every one of them is different. When designing the stations back in the 60’s to 80’s, they had different artist add their own unique twist. Sadly, since I mostly travel to stations that I need to go to, I don’t have as many pics as I would like.

Quartier Des Spectacles

Ste-Catherine Street is the busiest and probably one of the most well known streets in Montreal. It used to be the go-to way back when, but that’s Rene-Levesque’s job now. Now, let’s talk about the more seasonal things that go on during the summer months. Even as Harry Potter puts it; there are too many parades, but that’s not such a bad thing. This year, I was lucky enough to see the Gay Pride Parade and The Montreal Fashion Week in July and August of this year.

“Take Me to Church”

When coming to Montreal or Canada for that matter, unlike Europe; that is full of beautiful castles, there are none here whatsoever. Thankfully, since Christianity as a whole has major influence in the culture, we were literally blessed with beautiful churches. From St Joseph’s Oratory, Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral or Notre-Dame Basilica; all located in the Downtown area. These are our castles and there are a lot of them too. Unfortunately, by me being Jewish , my exposure to these works have art have been limited, but I’m slowing working on changing that. Also, I might even go to one of them on Christmas Eve and Day too, just for the experience.

Mont-Royal

When you come to visit Montreal, you can’t help but notice that the city is built on the side of a mountain. Some parts are lower than others and you just hope to God that you don’t need to walk up to get to your destination. When in Montreal or that fact any other city around the world, you want to get that perfect shot of the city to remember it by. Unfortunately, the only way to get the full city is to leave out that one big chunk of earth that gave the city its name. Thankfully though, the mountain is not just something to look at, it’s also accessible to the public by a number of roads and paths.
